Common Name: Mississippi Green water snake Scientific Name: Nerodia cyclopion Identification: 16-50 in. Dark gray-green or olive above, with small, dark indistinct markings; belly pale with diffuse gray spotting increasing toward tail; scales keeled. Habits: Green water snakes prefer large permanent bodies of water, especially in open country and around open cypress lakes. Distribution: The southern part of the state and the Red, Ouachita and Mississippi River Valleys. Comments: This snake is non-venomous.
